What is WOTFA? - The Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association (WOTFA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, promoting, and perpetuating the art of traditional Old Time Fiddling and associated arts and skills. We play the fiddle, violins, acoustic guitar, Dobro, mandolin, banjo, piano, harmonica, autoharp, ukulele, accordion or other acoustical instruments! We're pretty flexible, however, WOTFA rules do not allow electronically amplified instruments, but we do use microphones and speaker systems on stage.
WOTFA covers sixteen districts in Washington state. Each district holds its own meetings and musical gatherings. District 12 is Benton, Franklin and Walla Walla counties. Out of state members are welcome.
What Do We Do? - Mostly, we play music! Some members sing, some play, some dance, and some listen. Our members play at retirement centers, nursing homes, county fairs, private celebrations, and other local events. We also have monthly and semi-annual shows where the public is welcome! We also have monthly pizza jam nights, monthly business meetings/ jam-sessions and any other time we can sneak-in an extra jam session! Participation in any of the events is optional, based on your comfort level, however, everyone is encouraged to participate in the fun! Our week-long summer-time workshop attracts more than 300 musicians every year. The workshop is also a state-wide camp-out , and most WOTFA districts hold their own camp-outs during spring, summer or fall.
Where Do We Play? - Meetings, jam-sessions, and performances are held in grange halls, fraternal and community centers, or other available spaces.
